The observational data processing system FADPS for the 1-st observation cabin of RATAN-600

The reduction system of observations FADPS (description in Russian) (Flexible Astronomical Data Processing System) for data of wide-band receivers of the first observation cabin of the radio telescope RATAN-600 had been created under the Unix-like operational system DEMOS for computers of the SM-1420-type (PDP/11) in 1987 for observation analysis and estimates of coordinates and flux densities of radio sources. Those data had been obtained with the cross-section method with the North Sector of RATAN-600 ( Yu.N.Parijskij, N.N.Bursov, O.V.Verkhodanov, N.M.Lipovka, M.N. Now FADPS is a system for processing of one-dimensional vectors of observational data containing equidistant counts and for analysis of continual spectra of radio sources. FADPS contains graphic shells over programs fgr (description in Russian) (see also in Russian here) to visualize a process of operation of one-dimensional data vectors and spg to visualize a process of operation of non-equidistant measurements of continual spectra of radio sources (see also in Russian here) and independent packages for analysis of continuum radio spectra and microwave background radiation on the celestial sphere for the GLESP pixelization (see also in Russian here). Procedures for the servers CATS and SEDs had been created using FADPS libraries.

I should note that except FADPS there are some other processing systems at RATAN-600. They had been created by others observers specially for the their observational data. Among them, there are the program prad created by T.Sokolova and developed by S.A.Trushkin as the program pradT in the DOS and executed under OS Windows or under an emulator in Linux; a program for analysis of quasar variability in AstroSpace Center of Lebedev Physical Institute (Kovalev Yu.A., 1998. IKI/ASC at the RATAN-600 in 1979-1996: spectra monitoring and the nature of long-term variability of extragalactic radio sources. BSAO, No 44, 50); methods and programs of data reduction of the 1st observation cabin of Steinberg Institute of Moscow University (Gorshkov A.G., Khromov O.I., 1981, Bull. SAO, 1981, No 14, 15). Besides, there are data processing systems for spectroscopic observations at the 2-nd observation cabin of RATAN-600 and solar data from the 3-d observation cabin (Alferova Z.A., Gosachinskij I.V., Zhelenkov S.R., Morozov A.S., 1986, Bull. SAO, No 23, 89; Garaimov V.I., 1998, PhD thesis, Nizhnij Arkhyz, Special astrophysical observatory, respectively). Access and copyrights to use corresponding packages should be discussed with their authors personally.

In 2005 FADPS contained about 100 procedures, seven of which had been created with collegues (Shergin V.S., Monosov M.L., Erukhimov B.L., Chernenkov V.N. (SAO) and Doroshkevich A.G. (AstroSpace Center)). Other procedures had been created by Oleg V. Verkhodanov. Installation tar.gz-archive contains FADPS-library, codes of basic procedures for analysis of one-dimensional data vectors and continual spectra of radio sources, their descriptions in Russian, and an installation script. The total volume of code consists of about 300000 strings of the algorithmic language "C" and partly "shell", and description of programs contain about 70000 strings (more them 1000 pages of a printed text). All the software is free from the beginning of creation, and the package of data analysis on the celestial sphere GLESP been also free needs the additional registration.

FADPS consists of separate programs unified with a common system of astronomical data description (FITS-like format, in Russian) and with a standard system of input/output. To visualize data, the system contains graphic shells and programs, and, besides, allows one to format data according to the GNUPLOT-system input.

Among the FADPS basic utilities, one can mention procedures of harmonic analysis, non-linear smoothing, non-parametric average, simultaneous analysis of radio source spectra and coordinates in the problem of deblending radio source images, and others.

In FADPS, a user can create own data processing systems and packages. The command language of OS Unix and conveyor approach of information processing are applied to user design of packages in the multi-process system OS Unix.

The data processing system FADPS is continuously developed, e.g. old procedures are modified and new ones are created. The changes are reflected in the special file accessible with the command 'fnews' at a server with installed FADPS. The general description of the system is accessible with the command 'man fadps', and a list of procedures is accessible with the command 'litsf'.
